GHV & IUCN lead consultative meeting on carbon trading for Rwanda’s Eastern Province
On 19 and 20 November, Green Horizon Ventures in partnership with IUCN (International Union for the Conservation of Nature) held a consultative meeting with 16 PFMU forestry groups and local government officials to discuss the ongoing pilot project for establishing a carbon credits selling mechanism in the Eastern Province.
The intention of the project is to introduce a sustainable financing facility which will enable ongoing conservation and environmental protections for the farmers who have been supported under the Ministry of Environment & Rwanda Forestry Authority COMBIO project.
The two day meeting was partially a training and development programme, to enable landowners and officials to learn how carbon credits are generated, how they are sold, and the ways communities can engage and reap benefits from engaging in the project’s environment-positive activities.
The training was facilitated by Bruno Bugingo and Emmanuel Nshimiyimana with support from IUCN.
Local government stakeholders wishing to learn more about carbon credit mechanisms and the role GHV is playing in this work in Rwanda is invited to contact the Company for further information.
