GHV/CSA joins stakeholders in successful carbon trading consultative meeting

Green Horizon Ventures/Carbon Trade Solutions Africa Ltd joined several stakeholders in a successful consultative meeting in establishing a carbon credit selling mechanism under Rwanda’s innovative COMBIO Project. held on April 4.

The high-level meeting brought together key stakeholders to review and refine the proposed carbon credit implementation framework designed to support community-led biodiversity conservation and forest landscape restoration efforts in Rwanda’s Eastern Province. This initiative represents a strategic approach to addressing the region’s pressing environmental challenges, including climate vulnerability, land degradation, and biodiversity loss.

The COMBIO Project, a collaborative initiative between the Government of Rwanda’s Ministry of Environment and the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), aims to enhance climate resilience while supporting green economy development in the region. Implemented by the Rwanda Forestry Authority (RFA) in partnership with IUCN and other stakeholders, the project focuses on restoring degraded landscapes across the Eastern Province.

During the consultative meeting, Green Horizon Ventures/Carbon Trade Solutions Africa Ltd was formally recognized as the project proponent responsible for driving long-term implementation. Participants reviewed comprehensive carbon credit feasibility studies and implementation plans, providing valuable insights that will be integrated into the final framework.

The meeting successfully enhanced common understanding of the implementation roadmap and validated our role as the appropriate project proponent. Moving forward, stakeholders will collaborate to finalize carbon credit selling modalities and establish an equitable benefit-sharing mechanism, ensuring fair distribution of generated revenues to complement the Community-Based Biodiversity Fund.

This innovative financing approach promises to strengthen sustainable conservation practices throughout Rwanda’s Eastern Province while creating a replicable model for climate-resilient development across the region.
