FAMILY AS THE FOUNDATION OF PEACE
When Green Horizon Ventures (GHV) and Creative Visions Foundation (CVF) partnered with Art for Change Rwanda to celebrate peace through the transformative power of creativity, among the many artworks submitted, one piece stood out—not for its complexity, but for its profound simplicity.
It was a modest drawing, sketched by a young boy, depicting nothing more than a house. At first glance, it seemed almost out of place in a campaign centered on peace and love. How, one might wonder, does an ordinary house connect to such a grand and universal theme?
Yet, the boy saw something far greater than what the eye could immediately perceive. Beneath the simple lines of his drawing lay a deeply moving idea, one he captured in a heartfelt description written in Kinyarwanda. Loosely translated, his words read: “A house is where a family lives in peace and harmony. A girl and a boy meet, they become partners, they share a home, and together they bring children into the world—children who, in turn, grow up in the same peace and harmony.”
His vision was clear—a house is not just bricks and mortar; it is the very heart of peace. Within its walls, love grows, relationships flourish, and future generations are nurtured in an atmosphere of understanding and unity. The foundation of a peaceful world, he seemed to say, begins within the family, in the warmth and safety of a home.
This young boy, with a simple drawing and a profound message, reminded everyone that peace starts in the smallest, most intimate spaces, within the embrace of family.
